Katy + Laurie + me = good weekend

General Highlights from the weekend:

  • Laurie and I left almost an hour after we had oringally thought, then we ended up getting lost and spending an extra hour and almost a quarter tank of gas.
  • The three of us girls plus Matt went to a bar called the Office and played a terrible game of darts which ended in a draw (kinda).
  • Satruday we went to the mall and I got some new clothes from the Gap, yay! Matt even came shopping with us.
  • At Meijer we had fun eating samples (they were offering shots?) and seeing the international isle.
  • The sun was out and Matt gave us a very nice tour of campus, we walked through the crazy math building which anyone would get lost in.
  • Saturday night we watched Little Miss Sunshine (if you haven't seen it, see it), made dinner, watched a couple episodes of Friends, and after that talked until midnightish.
  • Matt showed me how to use RSS, and anyone who doesn't have it, should get it.
  • Laurie drove home, we took a crazy route with back roads and didn't get lost (yeah!), but then it started snowing so the last leg of our journey which would have taken probably 20 minutes took about 40, but we got home safe.
Church now, homework after, then bed. Thanks for the good weekend Laurie, Katy and Matt.

A New Way of Cooking

This Saturday my small group from the retreat got together to watch a movie. Before the movie started, we attempted to cook a bit. When I say cook, I mean take Pizza rolls out the package and put them into a heated oven for 10-12 minutes, and also cook some mozzarella sticks. We turned the oven on and about five minutes later, Marc asked if it was preheated yet, and I said it probably wasn't, since ovens normally take longer than that. So after another five minutes we checked to see if it was ready, there was no light, so we opened it to just put the rolls in. When I opened the door to the oven, we found that there was no heat emitting from it. We were all puzzled since the stove top was working. There was a switch on the top of the oven, and I pushed it to on.

"My oven has a light? That is so cool!." Notice that Marc has been living there since August, 2006. We moved the oven to see if maybe the gas was turned off, no, it seemed just fine. Hmm, ok, I guess we will just have to cook these in the microwave. But what about the mozzarella sticks? If we put those in the microwave, they will taste more like sponges than anything else.

"What about the George Forman Grill?" Yeah, sure, that baby cooks everything! There was very little cheese spillage and they also tasted pretty good. The pizza rolls were not so great, but still edible. We decided that we were having the all-college kid lunch. We ate our treats while watching The Lion King.

Have you ever had an amazing day or weekend or whatever, but still wanted to be somewhere else? I believe that pretty much everyone experiences this. Today it was just something really small, my day was pretty marvelous, but seeing someone walking back from a friend's house made me jealous I couldn't spend the night with them.

Feeling in and out of my element

This weekend was the Kairos retreat through St. T's, and it was wonderful. There were about 20 retreatants and ten team members, maybe a few more retreatants. It didn't take too long to become comfortable with the people around me. God worked that weekend, and He is still working. My small group meshed right away. The whole weekend I felt "on." I could crack a joke in most situations, and most everyone laughed. There was also discussion times, where my group would go back forth between deep conversation to funny lines. I also spent it with Heather, and it was the first time that we have ever really revealed our faith to each other, and now I feel like our friendship even deeper.

Upon return from the retreat, after church, my girlfriends hosted a "New Year's Party" at their place. Many of the people who were there are more of my acquaintances than my friends, and they are also loud. Switching in a few hours from a situation where I can be really comfortable talking to anyone to a place where I felt like I could only talk a few people was so strange. It makes me introverted, which is opposite of what I normally feel. Heather said, "It is good for you to feel introverted, because then you know what it is like." That statement is true, it does help me relate and try to understand people more, so when in a situation which isn't easy, I can see that.

New Semester

What have I done today? It is already two in the afternoon, and I have been to one class. College is lovely. So far I have been to my five classes, and they all look like they are going to be great, but I am pretty sure I think that before every semester. Here is a list of what I am looking forward to:

  • Kairos retreat this weekend, spirituality and sharing that with Heather, awesome
  • helping Andrea and Dan with their wedding stuff
  • Basic Homily prepartion, learning to really listen to homilies and giving my own
  • frisbee tournament in Cincinnatti and seeing my cousin and her family
  • actually enjoying a chemistry class
  • sometime figuring out what I will be doing next year
This semester I will be on time and ahead of time with assignments, I will not go to bed without having them done.

New Year's Resolutions

Usually I am all against New Year's Resolutions, because I break them about a month in. This year I am attempting to make them again, and we will see how long they last. But this way, I can look back at myself, and see if and when I have been keeping them.

My biggest resolution is to play the guitar three times a week, even if it is for 15 minutes at a time. This beautiful guitar has been sitting in my room, not making music, which is the opposite I want it to be doing.

That is the biggest one, there are other things I want to accomplish this year, but they aren't resolutions, like figuring out what I am going to do come May, that has to happen, but it is almost the end of January, somewhat. Hopefully, around that time, I will know at least something.
